Actions | 3, 3', 4'5-Tetrahydroxystilbene (or Piceatannol) is a phenolic stilbenoid. It is a metabolite of resveratrol found in red wine. A viral protein-tyrosine kinase (LMP2A) implicated in leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and other diseases associated with Epstein-Barr virus, was recently found to be blocked by picetannol in vitro. Therefore there is research interest in piceatannol as an anti-cancer and anti-EBV drug. Piceatannol can also act as an agonist for estrogen receptor alpha in human breast cancer cells. Piceatannol is a stilbenol that is trans-stilbene in which one of the phenyl groups is substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 3 and 4, while the other phenyl group is substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 3 and 5. It has a role as a protein kinase inhibitor, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, an antineoplastic agent, a plant metabolite, a hypoglycemic agent and an apoptosis inducer. It is a stilbenol, a member of resorcinols, a member of catechols and a polyphenol. It derives from a hydride of a trans-stilbene. Piceatannol, a natural stilbene, is a selective Syk inhibitor and ~10-fold selectivity versus Lyn. |
