General description | Sulfacetamide sodium salt hydrate is a sulfonamide antibiotic that blocks the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase(DHPS) with IC50 of 9.5 μM. Sulfacetamide is a competitive inhibitor of bacterial para aminobenzoic acid (PABA), which is required for bacterial synthesis of folic acid. |

Actions | Sulfacetamide Sodium is the sodium salt form of sulfacetamide, a synthetic sulfanylacetamide derivative with bacteriostatic activity. Sulfacetamide inhibits bacterial folic acid synthesis by competing with para amino benzoic acid. With a broad spectrum of action, it is used as an anti-infective topical agent to treat skin infections and as an oral agent for urinary tract infections. |
