l Biological Information |
Biochem/Physiol Actions | Lansoprazole is an acid proton-pump inhibitor similar to omeprazole. Lansoprozole is active against Helicobacter pylori. The plasma elimination half-life of lansoprazole does not reflect its duration of suppression of gastric acid secretion. Thus, the plasma elimination half-life is less than two hours, while the acid inhibitory effect lasts more than 24 hours. |
Application | 1. Proton Pump Inhibitors Compounds that inhibit H(+)-K(+)-exchanging ATPase. They are used as anti-ulcer agents and sometimes in place of hisstamine H2 antagonists for gastroesophageal reflux. 2. Anti-Ulcer Agents Various agents with different action mechanisms used to treat or ameliorate peptic ulcer or irritation of the gastrointestinal tract. This has included antibiotics to treat helicobacter infections; Histamine H2 antagonists to reduce gastric acid secretion; and antacids for symptomatic relief. |
