Biochem/Physiol Actions | Adapalene is a topical retinoid-like compound, chemically similar to vitamin A. Although the exact mechanism of action is unknown, adapalene binds to specific retinoic acid receptors in the nucleus, leading to specific gene . This agent stimulates skin growth through modulation of cellular differentiation, inflammatory processes and keratinization of follicular epithelial cells. Adapalene may increase dermal sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. Biochemical and pharmacological profile studies have demonstrated that adapalene is a modulator of cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes all of which represent important features in the pathology of acne vulgaris. |
Application | 1. Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory agents that are non-steroidal in nature. In addition to anti-inflammatory actions, they have analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions. They act by blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, which converts arachidonic acid to cyclic endoperoxides, precursors of prostaglandins. Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis accounts for their analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions; other mechanisms may contribute to their anti-inflammatory effects. 2. Dermatologic Agents Drugs used to treat or prevent skin disorders or for the routine care of skin. |
