Accumulated macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques result in plaque rupture and thrombus formation. Cerivastatin suppresses the growth of macrophages and decreases the of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue factor molecules, thus reduces acute coronary events. Cerivastatin sodium is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. HMG-CoA is a key enzyme in the production of cholesterol. |
