l Biological Information |
Biochem/Physiol Actions | α-Mannosidase is an acid hydrolase which is located in plant vacuoles and is thought to be involved with the turnover of N-ed glycoproteins. αMannosidase has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of B-lymphocytes. |
Application | Liberates mannose from a variety of synthetic and natural α-mannosides. α-Mannosidase can be used to liberate mannose from a variety of synthetic and natural α-mannosides. It has also been used in a study to investigate the causes of neurodegeneration in mucolipidosis II ′knock-in′ mice. |
Preparation Note | This enzyme is soluble in water (1 mg/ml), yielding a clear and colorless solution. |
Unit Definition | One unit will hydrolyze 1.0 μmole of p-nitrophenyl α-D-mannoside to p-nitrophenol and D-mannose per min at pH 4.5 at 25°C. |
