Biochem/Physiol Actions | RNA substrates lie in the cleft of RNase A and are cleaved by histidine 12 and histidine 119, via a 2′-3′ cyclic phosphate intermediate. The intermediate is then stabilized by nearby lysines such as Lys7, Lys41 and Lys66. |
Application | Ribonuclease A (RNase A) is a pancreatic ribonuclease that cleaves single-stranded RNA. RNase A, and several homologs, may be useful as cancer therapeutics due to their cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. Rnase A is useful in the elucidation of protein structure and absorbance. RNase A has been used as a model system in the study of computer-aided drug design . Product R2638 has scrambled disulfide bonds and is from bovine pancreas. |
Preparation Note | Prepared from Type I-A RNase by the method of Hillson, D.A., et al., Meth. Enzymol., 107, 281 (1984). |
