Biochem/Physiol Actions | Galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GALT) facilitates the simultaneous conversion of uridine diphosphoglucose (UDP-glucose) and galactose-1-phosphate (gal-1P) to uridine diphosphogalactose (UDP-galactose) and glucose-1-phosphate. Classic Galactosemia (CG) is an inherited metabolic condition caused by deficiency of GALT activity. |
Unit Definition | One unit will form 1.0 μmole of glucose 1-phosphate from UDP-glucose, galactose 1-phosphate and NADP+ per min at pH 8.7 at 25 °C as detected by a coupled system using phosphoglucomutase. |
